For two years the generous residents of this historic little village have welcomed racers from all over the country (and the world) for an exciting spectator event, featuring fast-paced amateur bike racing for the whole family.
We are excited to welcome back our event announcers, Bob Lonsberry and Josh Williams. Mr. Lonsberry and Mr. Williams have been with us since year one, entertaining crowds with witty banter (which often includes playfully heckling local racers) while informing spectators on the many nuances of the criterium racing.
The Rock Criterium will also have several other exciting features that will add to the spectator and racer experience. New to the races will be a food and beer tent located on Clinton Street. Offering a great view of the course, this area will provide food from Cheesed and Confused and Questa Lasagna and beer from The Village Tavern.
Both Mr. Lonsberry and Mr. Williams are longtime marathon runners and military veterans, and both are two of the most important journalists in regional media.
Mr. Lonsberry is a Mount Morris resident who for more than 25 years has hosted radio shows, been a columnists in print and online sources for numerous outlets, and authored five books. Mr. Lonsberry currently hosts a morning show on WHAM and an afternoon show on WSYR in Syracuse where he discusses news and political issues.
Mr. Williams is the founder and publisher of the Genesee Sun, an exclusively online news outlet based in Geneseo, NY. He shook up local media in 2011 when he launched the new web-based media source as it was one of the first completely online local new sources in the country, covering Livingston County News with a traditional journalistic approach in a progressive medium. Prior to owning the Sun, Mr. Williams was a professional photographer for the New York Post.
The races will also have a bike raffle courtesy of Cyclepath bike shop in Geneseo and a 50/50 rider bib number raffle. The proceeds for both raffles will be donated to the Arc in Mount Morris.
Other community events include a kids’ bike race, a 2-mile crit run, and a course lawn party contest.
